Forum on Travel Health and Pandemic Influenza
China International Travel Health Conference
November 11 – 12, 2009

Today H1N1 flu, the first influenza pandemic in more than 40 years is affecting travelers worldwide. Governments are issuing warnings and taking various steps such as border closures, airport screenings and quarantine to contain it from spreading further. WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said the virus has so far killed more than 74 people, mostly in Mexico, and infected nearly 9,000 others in 40 mainly affluent countries. What should travel health professionals know about newly emerging viruses such as H1N1? What must travel health practitioners do to increase their level of preparedness? How can the travel health industry effectively diagnose, intervene, prevent and treat infected travelers? Are the current methods of surveillance good enough? Do border controls work?

On November  11 and 12, the China International Travel Healthcare Association will host a Forum entitled “Travel Health and Pandemic Influenza” to better prepare travel health practitioners for such an outbreak. The Forum, which is part of the annual China International Travel Health Conference is bringing together professionals from across the country and region to further enhance their capabilities in responding to an influenza crisis affecting travelers. By participating, attendees will receive an unparalleled education and share experiences with other frontline experts on these very issues. There will also be discussions to help audiences better understand the nature of the infectious diseases affecting travelers, their treatment and available medication, as well as preparation including training for such disasters.

Call for Presentation

The world is much smaller today thanks to the convenience of efficient air and surface transportation. However such efficiency also means that travelers can spread diseases such as influenza far more rapidly forcing travel health professionals to rethink of new strategies for their prevention, management and treatment. The upcoming Forum on “Travel Health and Pandemic Influenza” examines the issues from the perspective of travel health practitioners and travel industry.  If you are an authority or recognized expert in pandemic influenza and travel health, here is an opportunity for you. Abstracts are now being sought from qualified individuals who want to serve as a panelist, moderator, session chair, keynote to deliver your presentation.  Interested parties should submit a 200-word abstract along with your biography by July 31, 2009. For full details on the Forum, visit the event Web site at www.chinatravelhealth.com or contact Maggie Li. Email:
